First Birthday
To celebrate my first birthday, we had a very excting party. Because we’re near the mid-Autumn festival, we had a barbeque - the weather was OK which meant that there was plenty of opportunity to run around outside in the communal garden.

As you can see, there’s a swimming pool in the gardens, which doesn’t seem to have any water in it. I found this was a wonderful place to run around like a maniac in.

Of course, no party is complete without a birthday cake (expertly cooked by Mummy), or presents - I think 1 year old is the perfect time to get your first train set.

One tradition which we followed was 抓週 (Zhua Zho), where the birthday-boy gets to choose his future career. Several objects are laid out on the floor to represent different careers, and everyone watches to see which one is picked up first. In my case, my parents had laid out a guitar (musician), A computer (technology), A wallet (finance), a phone (communication) and a book & pen (writer). After making a bee-line for the computer and briefly fiddling with it, I sat down to peer into Mummy’s purse, and empty it’s contents on the floor.
